Goodwood Festival of Speed
Venue: Goodwood
Location: Chichester, West Sussex

2nd-4th July 2010

For three days a year Goodwood becomes home to the world's greatest car collection, cars and drivers are gathered from all over the globe to participate in this stunning celebration of the internal combustion engine in all its forms – from F1 to rally, from Nascar to MotoGP, the Festival has them all not to mention the biggest collection of current Supercars to be seen at any motor show.

Lord March has recently announced provisional dates (shown above) for both the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival Meeting. These dates are currently subject to FIA confirmation.

In the summer of 1936 the Earl of March, better known as racing driver and Brooklands winner Freddie March, staged a private hillclimb for the Lancia Car Club at Goodwood House. He won it, driving his own Lancia Aprilia.

In the winter of 1992 his grandson, the present Lord March, had a vision of a new motor racing event at the family home. And so, the following summer, the Festival of Speed arrived on the social and sporting calendar.

The Festival is now the biggest motoring garden party in the world, attracting film stars, rock stars and royalty to the beautiful grounds of Goodwood House. You will see the latest Formula One cars, and their superstar drivers, as well as the greatest legends of decades gone by. You will also be intoxicated by the atmosphere, the glitz and glamour alongside the roaring engines and tyre smoke.

You will find yourself immersed in the ultimate motor show, featuring the very latest new models and the world’s fastest new supercars, many of which have never been seen in public before. For something a little more tranquil, there is the Cartier Style et Luxe concours for the rarest and most beautiful automobiles ever built. Wander among some of the world’s most beautiful cars, with jazz playing in the background, watch daredevil bike riders, and be amazed by the FOS TECH pavilion devoted to new and alternative technology.

On the hills above the main arena, watch world champions tackle the Goodwood Forest Rally stage.

The Festival of Speed is a fantastic place to do business, to entertain and reward your clients and customers. There is simply nothing like it anywhere else in the world.

FRIDAY kicks off the 2010 Goodwood Festival of Speed with a free practice day, a chance for the drivers and riders to familiarise themselves with the challenging twists and turns of this famously demanding hillclimb. The paddocks, filled with mouth-watering machinery, are the focal point for early visitors, many of whom have travelled across the world to see these rare and beautiful cars. Nowhere else will you see such a gathering of priceless racing machinery in one place at one time. In the gardens behind Goodwood House the annual Bonhams’ Summer Sale attracts the high rollers, and the dreamers, to its auction of the rarest and most valuable classic cars. Get your copy of the souvenir programme and wander slowly around the multitude of exhibitions, galleries and shops while soaking up the intoxicating atmosphere of the world’s biggest motor racing garden party.

SATURDAY is the day when visitors get the chance to watch world champions rise to the challenge of setting fastest time of the day on the hillclimb track that winds its way up from Goodwood House to the crest of the Sussex Downs. At the top of the hill, the World Rally Championship teams take to the tracks through the forest in a mesmerising display of car control between the trees. In the air, dramatic air displays thrill the spectator, while down below in Goodwood Park, music plays while families get together to picnic in the stunning grounds of Goodwood House.

SUNDAY sees the action taking place in earnest against the clock. The spine-chilling shrieks and howls of the latest Formula One cars bring the crowds to the edge of the track, as the heroes of modern Grand Prix racing come out to play. The fastest drivers on the planet, in the most sophisticated racing cars ever made, will blow your mind with their skill and showmanship. The fastest cars of the weekend, both modern and historic, will line up for the ‘Sunday Shoot-Out’ when they go head to head on the hill for the glory of setting the fastest time of the 2010 Festival of Speed. The day culminates in the Prize Giving ceremony where Lord March awards his much-coveted prizes and medals as the sun goes down behind Goodwood House.

Gurney Pavilion

Named in honour of American Grand Prix driver Dan Gurney, this pavilion occupies what is arguably the best viewing location in the park. Here you are on the outside of the famous Crossroads corner where the cars are building up speed for the blast past Goodwood House and where driver skill can make up a lot of time. This is a favourite place for the F1 drivers to demonstrate the raw power and spectacle of a modern Grand Prix racing car.

Hill Pavilion

Named in honour of American World Champion Phil Hill, this pavilion is on the outside of the track at the first corner after the startline. Here the cars head towards you, flat out through the shadows of the Lime Avenue, before braking hard and turning into the corner right in front of your balcony. Then you see them power towards the Crossroads corner before accelerating hard past Goodwood House and away up the hill. A great place to watch and just a short walk from the startline itself.
